AIDS: THE LOST VOICES
In this series finale, we delve into the complex and often troubling interplay between fear and exploitation surrounding AIDS diagnoses. Cases emerge that spotlight individuals who, either through personal struggle or malintent, weaponised the stigma of AIDS to manipulate and harm others.
Incidents of 'spitting', where individuals discharged saliva while claiming to be AIDS carriers, illustrate the depths of ignorance and the sheer panic they induced in victims. Equally disturbing are the stories of criminals wielding hypodermic needles, asserting that they contained HIV-infected blood.
In some instances, victims were not merely threatened but actually pricked, leading to overwhelming anxiety and distress. This disturbing phenomenon reveals a chilling manipulation of a public health crisis, turned into a tool for intimidation and crime.

In 2018, Mr Pledger showcased a life of relative comfort, often sharing images of himself with his collection of electric guitars within the familiarity of his home. However, a marked shift occurred between 2019 and 2021, as his posts transitioned to depict a starkly different reality—Mr Pledger was now residing in a tent, suggesting a possible descent into homelessness. Daniel McGlynn was born in Edinburgh on 14th April 1956 to Daniel McGlynn Snr and Mrs Rena McGlynn. His younger brother, Pat, an accomplished guitarist in his own right, gained fame as a member of the Bay City Rollers before forming his own band, 'Pat McGlynn’s Scotties', with Daniel as the lead guitarist.
Together, they achieved significant success in Japan and Germany. However, the band's lifestyle took a toll on Daniel, leading him to struggle with a heroin addiction, particularly during a time when the AIDS epidemic was becoming a critical issue in Scotland's drug-using community. Tragically, Daniel passed away just a few weeks shy of his 40th birthday on 28th March 1996 in Edinburgh.
